Homeschool Chemistry Curriculum
There are many ways to teach chemistry in homeschool, including textbooks, CD-ROMs, and kits for activities. Textbooks are the normal way of teaching chemistry, and though they can be boring, they can provide more information. Chemistry kits can be quite fun for the child to play around with and learn chemistry at the same time. CD-ROMs can provide entertaining interactive programs for the child to use while also providing pure information to help the student learn. This article will explain these three main methods for teaching chemistry for homeschoolers.
The first way of teaching chemistry is through the use of textbooks. Many children find reading through textbooks boring, but they do provide a lot of useful information about chemistry. The main thing to look for is to find a good textbook that is as up-to-date as possible. A chemistry textbook from twenty years ago will not provide as good enough information as one from five years ago. It is best to do some research before before grabbing a chemistry textbook to avoid giving a child out-of-date information.
Another way to teach children chemistry is through chemistry activity kits. Most of these are fun for a child to play with and learn about chemistry at the same time. They do not, however, provide as much information as a textbook does. Therefore it may be useful to supplement textbook work with some chemistry kit activities to spice teaching up a bit. Many chemistry kits can be used, and are more fun in, groups. That way multiple people can learn about chemistry and have fun doing it. Chemistry kits are easy to find all over the Internet as well as through catalogs and magazines.
CD-ROMs provide yet another way to teach chemistry to children. CD-ROMs can combine both the information from textbooks with the fun activities of chemistry kits, whether it is through simulations or fun educational games. Some CD-ROMs contain e-books and printable tests to help a child challenge him- or herself to study and learn chemistry. Others may contain exciting games that use the concepts in the lesson to progress through the game.
The homeschool chemistry curriculum does not have to be boring old textbook work. It is possible to spice things up with chemistry kits and CD-ROMs. As a matter of fact, chemistry kits and CD-ROMs are very common both online and in science museum giftstores. Teaching chemistry in homeschool could not be more fun!
